Mathys Tel hits hat-trick as France U21s thrash Switzerland 7-1

Tottenham attacker Mathys Tel produced a brilliant performance for France Under-21s on Tuesday night, scoring a hat-trick as the young French side thrashed Switzerland 7-1 in their final Euro 2027 qualifier.

Tel captained France in Orléans, opening the scoring after 10 minutes before doubling his side’s advantage before half-time.

He completed his treble in the 59th minute, curling a superb effort from outside the area after being set up by Dehmaine Tabibou.

France had already qualified for the European Under-21 Championship in Albania and Serbia, but Tel finished the campaign in style.

The three goals took his qualifying tally to eight, leaving him fourth in the scoring charts, while he now has 17 goals for France Under-21s.

That moves him level with Odsonne Édouard’s modern-era France Under-21 scoring record.

Tel had already scored the winner against Luxembourg during the international break and now returns to Tottenham with his confidence boosted.

Spurs will hope he can take that form back to club level as he continues to establish himself in north London.

Tel has shown glimpses of quality for Tottenham but still is a raw talent, who hasn’t quite found his best position in north London.
