Tottenham in talks over new Luca Williams-Barnett contract

Tottenham Hotspur are in talks with highly-rated academy youngster Luca Williams-Barnett over a new contract, according to The Sun’s Tom Barclay.

The 18-year-old has emerged as one of the most exciting prospects in the Spurs academy and has attracted interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Barclay reports that Tottenham are keen to tie Williams-Barnett down to fresh terms, with his current contract understood to run until 2028.

The news comes after reports from Germany that the attacking midfielder is being monitored by a number of leading clubs, including Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, while Premier League sides are also understood to be keeping an eye on his progress.

Williams-Barnett turned 18 earlier this month and made his senior Tottenham debut as a 16-year-old in the Carabao Cup last season.

He has also been around Roberto De Zerbi’s first-team squad this campaign, although opportunities for regular senior football have so far been limited.

Tottenham’s desire to secure his future will come as welcome news to supporters, particularly given the growing interest in one of the academy’s brightest young talents.

The immediate priority for Spurs will now be agreeing terms and, importantly, continuing to give Williams-Barnett a clear pathway towards regular first-team football.
