Archie Gray could be set for a place on the Tottenham bench when Spurs face Leeds United on Saturday, with Pedro Porro ready to return to the starting XI at right-back.
It would be a notable occasion for Gray, who came through Leeds’ academy before joining Tottenham in 2024.
He will be desperate to make an impression against his former club, but Roberto De Zerbi should resist the temptation to change his strongest side simply to accommodate him.

Gray has enjoyed a good season and deserves plenty of credit for the way he has contributed in more than one position.
He has shown he can do an excellent job at right-back and in midfield, giving De Zerbi valuable flexibility. His versatility and attitude make him an important member of the squad, even if he does not start every game.
A World Cup winner ready to return
But Porro is a top-class full-back and, with his fitness no longer a concern, it is time for him to return to the team.
The Spaniard is now a World Cup winner after helping Spain lift the trophy in July 2026, an achievement that underlines the level he can bring to Tottenham.

He offers quality, experience and an attacking threat from the right, with his delivery and ability to create chances giving Spurs an important dimension in possession.
Porro’s return has been managed carefully. He was named among the substitutes against Crystal Palace before coming on at half-time, and the Leeds fixture now offers the opportunity to put him straight back into the starting side.
If he is fit enough to start, Spurs should make the most of having one of their best players available again.
Gray remains a valuable option
That does not diminish what Gray has done this season. He has earned his place in De Zerbi’s plans and can still have a significant role to play, whether that is covering at right-back, providing energy in midfield or making an impact from the bench.

A return to Elland Road will give him extra motivation, but the team selection has to be about what is best for Tottenham.
There is no shame in Gray having to make way for a player of Porro’s calibre. The former Leeds youngster has had a strong campaign and will get plenty more opportunities.
For Saturday, though, Porro should start and Gray should be one of the options De Zerbi can call upon when needed.
