Tottenham Hotspur had two players reach significant international milestones on Saturday night, with Antonin Kinsky earning his first senior cap for the Czech Republic and Andy Robertson making his 100th appearance for Scotland.
Kinsky was handed his senior debut from the start as the Czech Republic travelled to face Spain in the UEFA Nations League. The goalkeeper played the full 90 minutes in a 3-1 defeat to the world champions.
It was a landmark moment for Kinsky, who has represented the Czech Republic throughout the younger age groups before finally receiving his first opportunity at senior level.
Robertson’s milestone came at the other end of the scale. The Tottenham left-back captained Scotland in a 2-0 victory over North Macedonia, becoming only the second Scottish men’s player to reach 100 caps after Sir Kenny Dalglish.
Robertson almost marked the occasion with a goal early on, but his effort was kept out by a fine save from goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski.
Kieron Bowie and John McGinn got the goals as Scotland secured their first win under new head coach Sebastien Pocognoli.
The achievement puts Robertson just two appearances behind Dalglish’s Scotland record of 102 caps, with the Tottenham captain now within touching distance of another piece of Scottish football history.
For Spurs, it was an unusual but welcome double milestone — a young goalkeeper taking his first steps on the international stage while one of the club’s senior players reached a century of appearances for his country.
