Credible sources says Tottenham have clause in Harry Kane’s new contract

Tottenham have reportedly retained a route back to Harry Kane despite the striker committing his future to Bayern Munich with a new contract until 2029.

Kane signed fresh terms with the Bundesliga champions on Thursday, extending his stay in Germany after three hugely successful seasons.

However, the agreement does not appear to have closed the door on a possible return to north London later in his career.

According to The Telegraph, Tottenham still hold first-option matching rights on Kane, an arrangement negotiated with Bayern as part of his transfer from Spurs in 2023.

The report says the agreement covers his entire spell in Germany and is separate from his playing contract, meaning the new extension does not affect it.

The rights would give Spurs the opportunity to match an offer from another club should Bayern decide to sell the England captain. It is not an indication that Kane is looking to leave, nor does it mean a return is imminent.

Indeed, Kane made clear when announcing his new deal that he is happy in Munich.

“My whole family is very happy here. I was keen to stay,” he said, adding that he wants to win more trophies with Bayern.

The 33-year-old has continued to deliver at an extraordinary rate since leaving Tottenham in 2023, scoring 156 goals in 161 appearances for Bayern. He has also collected major honours in Germany and was crowned the 2026 Ballon d’Or winner last month.

Kane remains Tottenham’s record goalscorer, having netted 280 times in 435 appearances for the club before his departure.

A return would therefore carry enormous emotional significance for Spurs supporters, particularly if he eventually decides to pursue the Premier League goalscoring record.
